Some Things God Cannot Do

Writer's picture: Elpidio PezzellaElpidio Pezzella

"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen."

Ephesians 3:20-21 NKJV

God can do all things! And who dares to argue with him? Otherwise he would not be God. The apostle Paul is talking about the One who can do immeasurably beyond what we ask or think, beyond even our calculations. In a complicated situation you think the solution is to have help from God to change it, but instead God can decide to help you be okay in that situation by doing a greater work. So, God can do the impossible. And saying impossible is to keep us from falling into despair, because He needs very little help. Remember the five loaves and two fish? It may sound absurd, yet there is a long list of things He does not and cannot do that you will discover in this different devotional than usual. In fact, I have decided to offer you a series of Bible verses to prove to you what has just been asserted. So these are not my beliefs, but biblical statements. In this list you will certainly find what you have been pining for lately, discovering (or realizing) how God is working in your life. Each quote will be like an answer from Above for you.

He cannot lie

“that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us.” (Hebrews 6:18).

He cannot leave you

“Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you” (Genesis 28:15).

He cannot forsake you

"Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

He cannot despise a broken heart

“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart—These, O God, You will not despise.” (Psalms 51:17).

He cannot sleep

“Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.” (Psalms 121:4).

He cannot stop loving you

“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.” (Jeremiah 31:3).

He cannot go unnoticed

“The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork.” (Psalms 19:1).

He cannot bear sin

“But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.” (Isaiah 59:2).

He cannot leave a work unfinished

“He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;” (Philippians 1:6).

He cannot forget you

“Can a woman forget her nursing child, And not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you.” (Isaiah 49:15).

He cannot grow weary

"Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.” (Isaiah 40:28).

He cannot make you a loser

"Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. ” (2 Corinthians 2:14).

He cannot be silenced

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.” (Matthew 24:35).

He cannot be imperfect

"Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.” (Matthew 5:48).

He cannot be second

“You shall have no other gods before Me” (Exodus 20:3).

He cannot be divided

“I and My Father are one.” (John 10:30).

He cannot change

“For I am the Lord, I do not change” (Malachi 3:6).

He cannot be destroyed

“Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And Your dominion endures throughout all generations” (Psalm 145:13).

He cannot break a promise

“My covenant I will not break, Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.” (Psalms 89:34).

He cannot be selfish

“He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? ” (Romans 8:32).

Know that this list is certainly partial, but nonetheless exhaustive. I hope it has been edifying to you.

IL MIO IMPEGNO

To respond to the aspiration and desire of so many honest believers to smuggle the talents received, I have pledged to train faithful men and women for "a service that serves", following the invitation of Jesus (Mt 20: 26-27). The proposed material aims to offer opportunities for training and personal growth not to be feared by others, but a sharing to grow together, far from controversy, accusations and any form of judgment aimed at fueling unnecessary disagreements and disputes. I'm trying!
